Renesas Demonstration of Its High Performance, Fast Boot, Low Power AI Trail Camera Winning Combo

Michael Kosinski, Senior Embedded Software Engineer at Renesas Electronics, demonstrates the company’s latest edge AI and vision technologies and products at the 2023 Embedded Vision Summit. Specifically, Kosinski demonstrates Renesas’ Winning Combination PoC (Proof of Concept), designed to deliver a low-power AI solution for battery-based trail camera, video doorbell and video security applications.

This PoC realizes both high-performance and low power vision AI by utilizing the Renesas RZ/V2L MPU. False detections are reduced by using advanced AI models running on the RZ/V2L AI accelerator (DRP-AI), thus reducing unnecessary alarms and wireless communication and extending battery life. The PoC allows for a quick boot of less than 500ms to capture image data. The ultra-low standby power (sub-1uA) is accomplished with the Renesas RA2E1 MCU to maximize battery life. The Renesas trail camera PoC includes the reference design and sample software to allow quicker time-to-market.

Here you’ll find a wealth of practical technical insights and expert advice to help you bring AI and visual intelligence into your products without flying blind.
