Brian Dipert, Editor-In-Chief of the Embedded Vision Alliance, interviews Gene Frantz, Texas Instruments Principal Fellow. Gene, who has been with the company for nearly 40 years, did his early work with DSPs in association with the Speak & Spell speech synthesizer. In this two-part series, Gene and Brian discuss the history of the DSP both at Texas Instruments and in the broader technology sector, the opportunity for embedded vision to be the next in a long series of DSP success stories, what adaptations DSPs will need to make in order to be efficient embedded vision processing engines, and the potential future evolution both of the embedded vision application and of products used in it. This is part one of a two-part series. Please click here for part two.
