Tokyo, Japan, April 7th, 2014 – Digital Media Professionals Inc. (DMP), a leading provider of 3D/2D graphics and Computing IP (Intellectual Property) cores, announced today that DMP acquired the sole rights to sell CogniVue’s embedded computer vision IP “APEX Image Cognition Processor (ICP)” cores to the Taiwan market in addition to the Japan market. Due to this agreement between DMP and CogniVue, APEX ICP IP can be licensed to customers directly from DMP in Taiwan where there are a large number of semiconductor and set makers in the mobile, automotive and consumer electronics device areas, where image cognition technology is in strong demand.
CogniVue’s APEX ICP cores are fully programmable and designed for embedded computer vision processing. APEX ICP cores enable pedestrians/obstacles/lane/blind spot detection for Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS), and other computer vision applications such as always on gesture recognition, face detection/recognition, at performance over 100 times faster than CPU or DSP solutions at equivalent power and area. Freescale Semiconductor, a leading semiconductor company, has already licensed APEX ICP IP and applied it to ASSP for automotive, where the highest product quality levels are required.
DMP has been providing GPU IP cores for 3D/2D graphics rendering and computing purposes to major semiconductor companies like Fujitsu Semiconductor, and Renesas Electronics for use in consumer electronics devices such as mobile gaming, digital cameras and printers or other SoCs. Adding APEX ICP IP to over ten years GPU IP technology development and IP business experience, DMP is already providing a strong One-Stop Solution to Japanese customers. By expanding APEX ICP IP sales activities to the Taiwan market, DMP proposes the best solution for the rapidly growing need for high performance, low power image cognition processing of Taiwan OEM/ODM vendors.
“We expect the current, continually increasing demand for image cognition technology in areas such as autonomous driving systems, ADAS, surveillance camera etc. to spread into growing areas like wearable devices and IoT (Internet of Things). I’m pleased to be able to provide the most value-added technology, APEX ICP to the Taiwan market, which plays such a significant role in the manufacturing industry.” – Tatsuo Yamamoto, CEO, DMP.
“CogniVue’s APEX technology provides the best performance per area per power for embedded vision processing, but with the combined expertise of DMP and CogniVue we also can offer the most comprehensive solution for helping our customers get to market quickly with new vision enabled applications. By expanding CogniVue’s business with DMP into Japan and Taiwan markets, APEX ICP technology will grow more rapidly into the preferred embedded vision processing solution globally.” – Simon Morris, CEO, CogniVue.
