The new CoaXPress 2.0 (CXP-12) evaluation kits are now ready for orders. The kit consists of a Basler boost camera, the corresponding Basler CXP-12 interface card and the CXP-12 accessory starter kit for a faster and less expensive evaluation phase. For the activation, the pylon Camera Software Suite is an impressive SDK for the camera as well as for the interface card.

Ahrensburg, August 28, 2019 – With the Basler boost series, Basler is one of the first camera makers on the market to expand its portfolio with cameras featuring the CoaXPress 2.0 standard and modern CMOS sensor technology. The first evaluation kits are now available for testing the boost camera with a CXP-12 interface for high resolutions and bandwidths. The evaluation kits consist of a Basler boost camera, the CXP-12 interface card specifically designed for it and the CXP-12 starter kit to connect the camera.

With the boost series, Basler offers excellent image quality optionally with the Sony IMX253 sensor with a 12 megapixel resolution and 68 fps maximum frame rate as well as with the IMX255 sensor with 9 megapixels and 93 fps. The camera has compact dimensions of 80 mm x 80 mm x 45 mm and includes a digital input and two GPIO ports with a maximum cable length of 40 m.

Thanks to the CoaXPress 2.0 standard published in July 2019, the Basler boost cameras achieve a bandwidth of up to 12.5 Gbits with a single CXP-12 cable. The precise triggering with the CXP cable eliminates the need for a separate I/O cable, making a single-cable solution possible in combination with power-over-CXP (PoCXP). This significantly lowers the system costs. The well-known Basler features such as the PGI image optimization distinguish this camera from other available models. The differences between CoaXPress 2.0 and various other image processing interfaces are presented in clear infographics at baslerweb.com/VisionInterfaces. They explain the specifications and costs, also in consideration of the market situation, and are intended to help customers select the right interface.

The CXP-12 interface card, also included in Basler’s CXP-12 Evaluation Kit, was developed specifically for the combination with the boost camera. The interface card connects the camera via one CXP-12 channel for smooth image data transfers.  Both components can easily be controlled with the pylon Camera Software Suite and thus create a perfect unit for fast and inexpensive evaluations and integrations into the application.

The evaluation kit also includes the CXP-12 Starter Kit. This contains a CXP data cable, two heat sinks for the optimal heat management of the camera outside of the image processing system (for example on a desk), a C-mount lens adapter and an I/O cable to externally trigger the camera.  Customers already have the suitable lens on hand or, if needed, they can find it in the Basler lens range.

The CXP-12 Evaluation Kit enables the optimal evaluation of the boost camera and the CXP-12 interface card and contains everything needed for an efficient integration. Video instructions for the installation and start-up of the Evaluation Kit are available at baslerweb.com/boost.
