Edge Computing Software that Simplifies Edge AI

This blog post was originally published at Intel’s website. It is reprinted here with the permission of Intel.

2020 has presented significant challenges, such as COVID-19, as well as opportunities that put human resiliency into perspective and priorities reconsidered across industries and our daily lives. However, the need to do more with data in more places has never been greater. Easily accessible digital tools, connected edge devices, and data-driven solutions are essential to address the challenges we’re facing. And if there’s one thing this crisis has taught us, it’s that time is of the essence. While complex requirements, unique connectivity and security challenges, and disparate edge infrastructures stand in the way, we have to move faster and deliver solutions sooner.

Despite the ongoing difficulties, Intel is committed to simplifying and accelerating the development of edge applications to help our developers grow their businesses and solve problems despite today’s challenges. That’s why we would like to share with you the newest developer enablement offering, Intel® Edge Software Hub.

Intel’s Edge Software Hub is a one-stop resource that makes it simple and easy for you to quickly find, prototype, and integrate use case–focused edge applications. It offers software development tools and software packages that are preintegrated and prevalidated, saving you time and money. And every solution is backed by Intel’s expansive portfolio of interoperable silicon platforms and our robust partner ecosystem, offering an array of vertical-specific hardware solutions.

With the initial release, we have included three software packages for edge AI application development in computer vision, retail, and industrial. These packages employ the Intel® Distribution of OpenVINO™ toolkit and are preintegrated and prevalidated for the required modules from Intel and open source communities. We’ve also applied our software development and design expertise to simplify them and accelerate the install, setup, and development process. This reduces development time by weeks, or even months. The Edge Software Hub also provides a single-click evaluation license for Intel-developed software. Supported by our customer engineering team, the Edge Software Hub provides two types of support packages for developers: a free community forum and a paid support model.

We have also collaborated with our ecosystem partners to accelerate the prototype-to-production journey. Working with our equipment maker partners, we have published a hardware recommendation catalog. The prevalidated hardware systems in the catalog are designed to optimize performance and work across multiple use conditions in computer vision, retail, and industrial. The Edge Software Hub also leverages our investment in open source communities like EdgeX Foundry and ORI. We have also prevalidated cloud service partners’ developer offerings to simplify the edge-to-cloud workflow. To further accelerate your development process, we are working with global community system integrators and software application vendors to source use case‒specific software packages and drive commercial-scale through ecosystem programs such as Intel® RFP Ready Kits & Market Ready Solutions.

Going forward, we will deliver updates to the Edge Software Hub on a regular cadence to offer you new use case–focused packages covering network edge, industrial control, robotics, and much more. We invite all developers to come join this community and begin building transformative edge applications. Getting started takes only minutes.
