STMicroelectronics Demonstration of Anomaly Detection Using the Intelligent Sensor Processing Unit

Royce Higashi, Applications Engineer at STMicroelectronics, demonstrates the company’s latest edge AI and vision technologies and products at the December 2023 Edge AI and Vision Alliance Forum. Specifically, Higashi demonstrates anomaly detection using the company’s intelligent sensor processing unit (ISPU).

The LSM6DSO16IS system-in-package inertial module integrates a 6-axis IMU (accelerometer and gyroscope) along with an ISPU core, enabling edge processing in the sensor while reducing system power consumption. In this demo, the LSM6DSO16IS monitors a motor’s vibration signature. The integrated ISPU has been trained to recognize a normal vibration signature, and to flag an interrupt when an anomaly is detected. Vibration signal monitoring and detection are performed by the LSM6DSO16IS without any intervention from an external processor or MCU.

Here you’ll find a wealth of practical technical insights and expert advice to help you bring AI and visual intelligence into your products without flying blind.
