Sony Semiconductor Demonstration of Its Open-source Edge AI Stack with the IMX500 Intelligent Sensor

JF Joly, Product Manager for the AITRIOS platform at Sony Semiconductor, demonstrates the company’s latest edge AI and vision technologies and products at the 2025 Embedded Vision Summit. Specifically, Joly demonstrates Sony’s fully open-source software stack that enables the creation of AI-powered cameras using the IMX500 intelligent vision sensor.

In this demo, Joly illustrates how the same vision application can run seamlessly on completely different hardware configurations—one built on a Raspberry Pi with an ARM CPU, the other on a camera powered by an ESP32 microcontroller. This highlights the flexibility and hardware-agnostic nature of Sony’s edge AI solution. The demonstration showcases the full open-source stack, including:

  • A lightweight runtime for AI inference on the edge
  • An SDK for building vision applications, and
  • The Local Console GUI for deploying and managing applications across devices

This end-to-end demo highlights how Sony’s open ecosystem enables powerful, scalable AI capabilities on resource-constrained devices. Get started here: https://github.com/SonySemiconductorSolutions/aitrios-sdk-edge-app/blob/main/docs/tutorials/raspi_localconsole.md
