Deeplite and Mila Enter Artificial Intelligence Research Partnership for AI/ML Optimization

Montreal, Canada – September 23, 2020 – Montreal-based AI startup Deeplite, Inc, announced a research partnership with Mila, an academic research institution dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence (AI), with a strong focus on deep learning optimization to enable AI/ML in the cloud and at the edge.

Deeplite and Mila will collaborate on research and talent development initiatives exploring deep learning techniques to advance the accessibility and affordability of AI in everyday life. This collaboration will focus on designing faster and more efficient deep neural networks, making them applicable to real-world applications, reducing the environmental footprint and resource demands of deploying AI solutions.

Founded by Professor Yoshua Bengio, co-recipient of the 2018 ACM A.M. Turing Award, Mila builds strong collaborations with the artificial intelligence research community. Recognized globally for its significant contributions to the field of deep learning, Mila established itself in the areas of language modeling, machine translation, object recognition and generative models.

Deeplite is a Canadian AI software company dedicated to enabling AI everywhere. Deeplite uses AI to automatically make other AI models faster, smaller and more energy-efficient creating highly compact, high-performance deep neural networks for deployment on edge devices such as cameras, sensors, drones, phones and vehicles. Deeplite was recently named to the CB Insights AI100 list of the world’s most promising and innovative private artificial intelligence startups.

“Accelerating time-to-market for accurate computer vision and perception AI models is fundamental to realizing the value of many diverse applications that will have a positive impact on our everyday life,” said Professor Yoshua Bengio, Scientific Director of Mila. “Addressing the challenge of running complex and sizeable deep neural networks on limited compute power is crucial, and we’re excited to support Deeplite’s unique technology strategy and the innovation that will result from this partnership.”

“Artificial intelligence has tremendous potential to change the way we interact with the things we use every day. We are very excited about the progress we have made with AI compression and acceleration. Our collaboration with Mila will help us advance these efforts!”, said Ehsan Saboori, CTO and co-founder, Deeplite. “We look forward to working with Professor Bengio and the broader Mila research community to accelerate the productization of our platform to enable AI models for edge devices and more cost-effective AI models in the cloud.”

Deeplite plans to hire more talent in Montreal, and abroad, to fuel its growth. Visit www.deeplite.ai if you are interested in joining the Deeplite team!
