“Vision-based Aircraft Functions for Autonomous Flight Systems,” a Presentation from Acubed (an Airbus Innovation Center)

Arne Stoschek, Vice President of AI and Autonomy at Acubed (an Airbus innovation center), presents the “Vision-based Aircraft Functions for Autonomous Flight Systems” tutorial at the May 2025 Embedded Vision Summit.

At Acubed, an Airbus innovation center, the mission is to accelerate AI and autonomy in aerospace. Stoschek gives an overview of vision systems for autonomous flight, starting at the core: sensors, perception algorithms and AI decision-making. He connects the technology to the business goals, such as reducing pilot fatigue, improving safety, enhancing efficiency and reducing human error.

Stoschek then shares lessons learned from Acubed’s autonomous flight system development, including challenges they’ve faced along the way. He concludes by discussing how Acubed’s experience can apply to other industries and talks about what’s next for Acubed and Airbus in autonomous flight.
