Free Webinar on How Multimodal Sensing Enables Physical AI

On October 8, 2026 at 9 am PT (noon ET), Peter Labaziewicz, Business & Strategy Executive, and Tom Mayo, Product Manager for Radar, at D3 Embedded, will present the free hour webinar “How Multimodal Sensing Enables Physical AI: Combining Intelligent Imaging and mmWave Radar,” organized by the Edge AI and Vision Alliance. Here’s the description, from the event registration page:

Physical AI systems must perceive, understand, and act reliably in environments where lighting, weather, occlusion, motion, and system constraints can degrade any single sensing modality. This requirement is especially critical for robots operating in close proximity to people, where perception failures can create immediate safety risks and undermine trust in the system. We examine how intelligent imaging, thermal sensing, LiDAR, and mmWave radar contribute complementary information to perception systems, with particular emphasis on the combination of cameras and radar. Cameras provide rich semantic and spatial detail, while radar delivers direct range, velocity, and robust detection in darkness and adverse environmental conditions.

Attendees will learn how to compare sensor strengths and failure modes, select an appropriate modality mix, and choose among data-, feature-, and object-level fusion strategies. We also address the practical foundations of safe and reliable fusion, including synchronization, calibration, coordinate alignment, data acquisition, edge processing, validation, redundancy, and productization. Examples from robotics, mobility, industrial automation, aerospace, and other performance-critical applications illustrate how system requirements should drive sensor and compute architecture—using the least complex approach that satisfies performance, safety, and human-proximity requirements.

Peter Labaziewicz is a business and technology leader at D3 Embedded with decades of experience in imaging, embedded vision and product strategy. Previously at Kodak, Texas Instruments and Intel, he holds multiple patents and specializes in turning advanced sensing technologies into production-ready solutions.
Tom Mayo is Product Manager for Radar at D3 Embedded, specializing in embedded processing, mmWave radar, intelligent sensing and sensor fusion. His expertise spans analog, RF and digital hardware, software and embedded systems.
